Under this open vendor model, providers have the option of using Medicaid’s MEVV or choosing a solution that better suits their needs. Providers will be expected to transmit standardized visit-related data to the MEVV, according to Medicaid. In January 2022, the new MEVV system will be introduced.
As a result of the granting of the Good Faith Effort Exemption Request, Alabama can now implement EVV until January 1, 2021. By 2021, home care agencies in Alabama will be able to do the same.
The 21st Century Cures Act mandated electronic visit verification for home health care providers and their reimbursements under Medicaid. Homecare and personal care agencies will have until January 1, 2023, to implement EVV as a requirement of Medicaid reimbursement.
Electronic Visitor Verification allows for an employee’s location and hours of work to be verified. It also confirms that the patients are receiving the care they require, and that visits being reported are taking place.
To comply with the new mandate, EVV must verify the following:

3.Date of the Service
4.Location of Service Delivery
5.Individual Providing the Service
6.Time the Service Begins and Ends
